All Queensland property professionals holding the following licences or registrations are now required to undertake mandatory Continuing Professional Development (CPD), irrespective of their specific job title, position, or responsibilities:
- Real estate agent
- Real estate salesperson (including property managers)
- Real property auctioneer
- Resident letting agent
The purpose of CPD training is to strengthen your expertise, expand your knowledge base, and elevate your professional standards. This ongoing education keeps you current with industry best practices and regulatory changes, playing a vital role in fostering client confidence and enhancing the overall standing of the property sector.
Please note that CPD training is distinct from any initial training requirements you may have fulfilled during your original license or registration application process.
You must complete 2 approved CPD sessions within each CPD year. Your CPD year is determined by when your licence or registration was originally granted.
Failure to meet this requirement may result in ineligibility for licence or registration renewal.
See attached QLD CPD Factsheet
Is this a self-paced program?
We offer pre-recorded self-paced CPD sessions for busy agents who want to select when and where they do their CPD.
Please note: the webinars will run for 2 hours per subject.
Is there a workshop option?
Workshops run on the last Monday of each month. Simply enrol and pay to receive your booking confirmation. A Zoom link will be sent 24 hours prior to the workshop.
Do I have to do CPD?
All Queensland property professionals are now required to undertake CPD training, regardless of their licence or registration type.
For more information, please visit this link from the Office of Fair Trading.
What topics do I complete?
You are required to complete 2 approved CPD sessions each CPD year.
There are two types of sessions, Type 1 and Type 2.
Type 1 sessions are based on units of competency from the national property services training package.
Type 2 sessions are aimed at improving knowledge or industry relevant skills but are not linked to a unit of competency. You can choose to complete:
- a Type 1 and a Type 2 session
or
- 2 of the Type 1 sessions.
At this stage, Archer Institute offers Type 1 sessions only.
Do I need to record anything?
Licence and certificate holders must retain their own records of all CPD they complete for 5 years. The Office of Fair Trading may ask you to provide evidence of completion.
It is the licence or certificate holders responsibility to ensure they meet their mandatory CPD requirements every year.
Are there any exemptions?
CPD training is not required in the following situations:
- New licence holders: If your current licence or registration was initially issued less than 12 months ago—CPD requirements begin 12 months after your licence or registration was first granted
- Deactivated licences: If your licence remained deactivated for the majority of your CPD year
- Limited licences: If you hold a limited real estate agent licence specifically for affordable housing or business letting purposes
- Public sector representatives: If you represent government agencies or serve as an official with a licence under the Property Occupations Act 2014, provided you don’t maintain a separate individual licence or registration. However, if you do hold an individual licence or registration in addition to your official role, CPD training remains mandatory
Exemption Applications
You may request an exemption for any CPD year if exceptional circumstances prevented you from completing the required training.
Exceptional circumstances must be both unforeseen and unavoidable. Poor planning or time management does not qualify as an exceptional circumstance.
When applying for licence or registration renewal or restoration, you must submit documented evidence supporting your claim of exceptional circumstances along with your exemption request.
Can I complete CPD online?
You are able to complete your Type 1 CPD session online so long as they are completed within your specified CPD year. To check when you need to undertake CPD click here.
